Bible Fact · Isaiah 41:10 — 'Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you.'
The Most Repeated Command in the Bible
The Fact
The command 'Do not be afraid' — along with its close equivalents 'Fear not,' 'Do not fear,' and 'Do not be dismayed' — appears approximately 365 times in the Bible, one for every day of the year. This has become a popular observation in Christian teaching, and while the exact count varies by translation and counting method (some count closer to 100 if strictly limiting to a single phrase), the overwhelming frequency of the command is undeniable. It appears in nearly every book of the Bible and is spoken by God directly, by angels, by prophets, by Jesus, and by Paul. God says it to Abraham (Genesis 15:1), to Joshua (Joshua 1:9), to Daniel (Daniel 10:12), to Mary (Luke 1:30), to the disciples (Matthew 14:27), and to John on Patmos (Revelation 1:17). The sheer repetition communicates something vital: fear is a universal human experience that God consistently, patiently, repeatedly addresses.
Context
The command is most often followed by a reason: 'for I am with you,' 'for I have redeemed you,' 'for the battle is the LORD's.' The command is not mere reassurance — it is grounded in theological fact.
Significance
God's most repeated command tells us something about what he knows of us — and what he wants to cure us of. Fear is the fundamental disorder of a heart not yet fully anchored in God's love.
