Old Testament · Exodus
Aaron
“Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons, so they may serve me as priests.”Exodus 28:1
Biography
Aaron was Moses' older brother and appointed spokesperson. God chose him to speak for Moses before Pharaoh. He was consecrated as the first High Priest of Israel, establishing the Levitical priesthood. His rod budded miraculously to confirm his priestly appointment. However, he also displayed weakness — creating the golden calf under pressure from the people, and joining Miriam in challenging Moses' authority. Despite these failures, he served faithfully as High Priest for 40 years.
Spiritual Lesson
Aaron's life illustrates the tension between calling and character. He was chosen for a holy office yet was prone to people-pleasing and compromise under pressure. His priesthood, offering sacrifices year after year, points forward to Christ — the ultimate High Priest who needs no sin offering for himself and who intercedes perfectly and permanently for his people.
