Elijah
“How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”1 Kings 18:21
Biography
Elijah was one of Israel's greatest prophets, appearing suddenly in the darkest spiritual hour of the nation's history. He confronted King Ahab and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel — calling down fire from heaven while 450 Baal prophets received silence. He then prayed and rain ended a three-year drought. After his victory he fled into the wilderness in despair, where God met him with food and rest and a still small voice. He never died — God took him to heaven in a whirlwind.
Spiritual Lesson
Elijah shows the full humanity of the prophet — blazing courage on Carmel, then exhausted despair under a juniper tree. God's response to his burnout was not rebuke but compassion: rest, food, and a gentle question: 'What are you doing here, Elijah?' He teaches us that God meets exhausted servants with compassion, not condemnation, and that ministry must be sustained by the still small voice.
