Jeremiah
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”Jeremiah 1:5
Biography
Jeremiah was called as a young man and prophesied for over 40 years through Judah's final collapse and the Babylonian captivity. Called the 'weeping prophet,' he wept over Jerusalem's coming destruction and was forbidden to marry as a sign of God's judgment. He was repeatedly imprisoned, beaten, and thrown into a cistern. He proclaimed judgment but also promised the New Covenant (chapter 31) written on hearts rather than stone tablets.
Spiritual Lesson
Jeremiah demonstrates that God's call does not guarantee ease, popularity, or visible success. He preached faithfully for decades with little visible response. His raw and honest laments before God legitimize our own pain and confusion in ministry. His most dangerous temptation was the pressure to 'declare peace when there is no peace.' Faithfulness to the true word is worth every cost.
