Joseph, Husband of Mary

Biography
Joseph was a carpenter from Nazareth of the lineage of David, betrothed to Mary when he discovered she was pregnant. Rather than exposing her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly — showing both justice and mercy. An angel appeared to him in a dream revealing the child's divine origin, and Joseph obeyed immediately. He protected the family by fleeing to Egypt, returned after Herod's death, and raised Jesus in Nazareth. He appears to have died before Jesus's public ministry. Scripture notes his righteous character repeatedly.
Spiritual Lesson
Joseph's story teaches quiet, costly obedience. He was given the most extraordinary calling in history — raising the Son of God — with almost no public recognition. He responded to divine guidance through dreams not once but repeatedly, each time doing exactly what was commanded without complaint or hesitation. His life models the faithfulness of the man who does the next right thing in obscurity, trusting that God sees.
