Leah
“She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, 'This time I will praise the Lord.' So she named him Judah.”Genesis 29:35
Biography
Leah was Jacob's first wife, given to him in place of Rachel whom he loved. She was the unloved wife — Scripture says Jacob loved Rachel more. Yet God saw her pain and opened her womb, and she bore six sons (including Judah, ancestor of Christ) and one daughter. The names she gave her sons trace her spiritual journey from seeking her husband's love to resting in God's love alone. Her naming of Judah — 'this time I will praise the Lord' — marks her turning point.
Spiritual Lesson
Leah's life is the story of finding worth in God alone when it is not found in the eyes of others. She was unseen, unloved, and undesired — yet she is the mother of Judah, through whom Christ came into the world. God consistently chooses the bypassed and the second-chosen for his most significant purposes. Leah's transformation from seeking human love to praising God is a journey many know.
