Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: 'I have seen the Lord!' And she told them that he had said these things to her.John 20:18

Biography

Mary Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus from whom he had cast out seven demons. She was present at the crucifixion when most of the male disciples had fled, stood at the foot of the cross, witnessed his burial, and was the first to arrive at the empty tomb on resurrection morning. She was the first person to whom the risen Christ appeared, and the first to proclaim 'I have seen the Lord' — making her the first herald of the resurrection. Jesus chose her, not Peter or John, to bear this announcement.

Spiritual Lesson

Mary Magdalene's story is radical grace: from a woman oppressed by seven demons to the first witness of the resurrection. She was not chosen for her status or theological training but for her love. She stayed when others left and sought him when others had given up. Her story is Jesus's answer to those who believe they are too broken to be trusted with good news: the most broken become the most faithful heralds.
