Micah
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”Micah 6:8
Biography
Micah was a rural prophet from the village of Moresheth in Judah who prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. He spoke against the corrupt leaders and false prophets of both Israel and Judah. He is famous for the verse that summarizes the entire ethical demand of the law: justice, mercy, and humility. He also prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem — a prophecy quoted by the chief priests when Herod asked where Christ was to be born.
Spiritual Lesson
Micah 6:8 is one of the most concentrated summaries of the Christian life: act justly (in our public dealings), love mercy (in our personal character), and walk humbly with God (in our inner devotion). These are not sequential steps but three dimensions of a single life of covenant faithfulness. Micah reminds us that God is not impressed by religious performance — he wants a person who is just, compassionate, and dependent on him.
