Samuel
“The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.'”1 Samuel 3:10
Biography
Samuel was the last judge and first major prophet of Israel, born to Hannah after she prayed fervently for a child and dedicated him to God. Raised at the tabernacle in Shiloh under Eli, he heard God's voice as a child when the word of the Lord was rare. He anointed both Saul and David as kings and was the transitional figure between the era of judges and the monarchy. Throughout his long ministry, Samuel maintained unimpeachable integrity.
Spiritual Lesson
Samuel's life begins with his mother's desperate prayer and his own posture of listening. 'Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening' is one of the most important prayers in Scripture — the surrender of the hearing ear. His lifelong integrity, even when his own sons were corrupt, shows that spiritual legacy requires personal faithfulness regardless of what others around us do.
