Why Follow Jesus?

The honest diagnosis

Most of us live by a quiet hope that if we try hard enough, we'll be good enough — for ourselves, for others, maybe for God. The Bible gently disagrees. It says our problem runs deeper than bad habits; we are, all of us, cut off from the source of life and unable to fix it from the inside. That sounds bleak until you realize it's the first honest thing anyone has said about you — and the doorway to real grace.

The invitation

Here is the heart of it: you cannot earn your way to God, and you don't have to. What you could never achieve, Jesus has already done. Following him does not begin with cleaning yourself up; it begins with coming as you are and receiving a gift — forgiveness, a fresh start, and God himself as Father. 'It is by grace you have been saved, through faith… not by works, so that no one can boast.'

What following actually means

To follow Jesus is not to sign up for a religion of rules but to entrust your life to a person you've come to trust. It reshapes everything slowly — how you handle money and anger, how you forgive, who you welcome — not to earn love, but because you already have it. You don't walk it alone, either: Jesus gives his own Spirit to live within you, and a family, the church, to walk beside you.

Your first step

You don't need the right words or a finished life to begin. You can simply turn to God in your own words — admitting you've gone your own way, thanking Jesus for what he did, and asking him to lead. Then start walking: read the story of Jesus for yourself (the Gospel of John is a good first door), talk to him honestly, and find a community of his people. The appointed time to begin is the one you're in.
