帖撒罗尼迦前书第3章
概览
保罗再也忍受不住分离的悬念，便说明他差提摩太回帖撒罗尼迦去，「为要在你们所信的道上坚固你们，劝慰你们」（3:2），唯恐逼迫使他们动摇，「那诱惑人的」毁了他的劳苦（3:5）。他提醒他们，自己早已预先告知受苦原是他们所命定的分（3:3-4）。随后本章迸发出宽慰与喜乐：提摩太带回了「你们信心和爱心的好消息」，并报告他们常常善意记念保罗、切切想见他（3:6）。这报告使保罗大得复苏，以致他说：「你们若靠主站立得稳，我们就活了」（3:8），他满溢感恩，问自己怎能为他们带来的一切喜乐而向神感谢得够。他昼夜切切祈求，要与他们面对面，「补满你们信心的不足」（3:10）。本章以一段如展翅般的祈愿作结：愿神引领他的道路到他们那里，愿主使他们「彼此相爱的心……增长，充足」（3:12），又愿祂在主耶稣同祂众圣徒降临之时，使他们「心里坚固，成为圣洁，无可责备」站在神面前（3:13）。
1我 们 既 不 能 再 忍 ， 就 愿 意 独 自 等 在 雅 典 ，Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
2打 发 我 们 的 兄 弟 在 基 督 福 音 上 作 神 执 事 的 （ 有 古 卷 作 ： 与 神 同 工 的 ） 提 摩 太 前 去 ， 坚 固 你 们 ， 并 在 你 们 所 信 的 道 上 劝 慰 你 们 ，And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3免 得 有 人 被 诸 般 患 难 摇 动 。 因 为 你 们 自 己 知 道 我 们 受 患 难 原 是 命 定 的 。That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
4我 们 在 你 们 那 里 的 时 候 ， 预 先 告 诉 你 们 ， 我 们 必 受 患 难 ， 以 後 果 然 应 验 了 ， 你 们 也 知 道 。For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
5为 此 ， 我 既 不 能 再 忍 ， 就 打 发 人 去 ， 要 晓 得 你 们 的 信 心 如 何 ， 恐 怕 那 诱 惑 人 的 到 底 诱 惑 了 你 们 ， 叫 我 们 的 劳 苦 归 於 徒 然 。For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
6但 提 摩 太 刚 才 从 你 们 那 里 回 来 ， 将 你 们 信 心 和 爱 心 的 好 消 息 报 给 我 们 ， 又 说 你 们 常 常 记 念 我 们 ， 切 切 的 想 见 我 们 ， 如 同 我 们 想 见 你 们 一 样 。But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7所 以 弟 兄 们 ， 我 们 在 一 切 困 苦 患 难 之 中 ， 因 着 你 们 的 信 心 就 得 了 安 慰 。Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
8你 们 若 靠 主 站 立 得 稳 ， 我 们 就 活 了 。For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9我 们 在 神 面 前 ， 因 着 你 们 甚 是 喜 乐 ， 为 这 一 切 喜 乐 ， 可 用 何 等 的 感 谢 为 你 们 报 答 神 呢 ？For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
10我 们 昼 夜 切 切 的 祈 求 ， 要 见 你 们 的 面 ， 补 满 你 们 信 心 的 不 足 。Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
11愿 神 我 们 的 父 和 我 们 的 主 耶 稣 一 直 引 领 我 们 到 你 们 那 里 去 。Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12又 愿 主 叫 你 们 彼 此 相 爱 的 心 ， 并 爱 众 人 的 心 都 能 增 长 、 充 足 ， 如 同 我 们 爱 你 们 一 样 ；And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men , even as we do toward you:
13好 使 你 们 当 我 们 主 耶 稣 同 他 众 圣 徒 来 的 时 候 ， 在 我 们 父 神 面 前 ， 心 里 坚 固 ， 成 为 圣 洁 ， 无 可 责 备 。To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
