Bible Theme
Holy Spirit
Summary
The Holy Spirit is God himself present and active — not a force or feeling but the third person of the Trinity, fully divine. He is the one who brings God's presence near, applying to us all that Christ has done. From creation's first moment to the church's birth, the Spirit gives life, empowers, convicts, comforts, and transforms. To have the Spirit is to have God dwelling within.

Did You Know
In the Old Testament
The Spirit hovered over the waters at creation and came upon prophets, kings, and craftsmen to equip them for God's work. Through Ezekiel, God promised more: 'I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes' — an inward power not yet poured out.
In the New Testament
At Pentecost the promise arrived: the disciples 'were all filled with the Holy Spirit.' Now the Spirit indwells every believer, assures us we are God's children, and raises us with resurrection life — 'he who raised Christ will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit.'
Common Misconception
Some reduce the Spirit to spectacular experiences; others ignore him as too mysterious to know. But Jesus called the Spirit our Helper, a person to be related to. His chief work is not to draw attention to himself but to glorify Christ and form Christ's character in us.
Application
You are not left to live the Christian life on your own strength. Walk by the Spirit: ask for his help, yield to his promptings, and look for his fruit — love, joy, peace, patience — to grow as you keep in step with him.
