Spiritual Warfare
Summary
Spiritual warfare is the Bible's sober recognition that we live in contested territory. Behind the visible world a real battle rages between God's kingdom and the powers of darkness — and every believer is caught up in it. Yet this is no fair fight. The decisive victory is already won at the cross. We do not fight for victory but from it, standing firm in armor God himself supplies.

In the Old Testament
The conflict is announced in Eden's first promise: the offspring of the woman would 'bruise the head' of the serpent. From there the Old Testament traces a long enmity between the seed of promise and the powers opposed to God, awaiting a deliverer.
In the New Testament
Jesus met the tempter head-on in the wilderness and defeated him with the word of God. The New Testament arms us: 'Put on the whole armor of God,' 'resist the devil, and he will flee,' for believers conquer 'by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.'
Common Misconception
Two errors lurk: ignoring the spiritual realm entirely, or seeing a demon behind every difficulty. Scripture is balanced — the enemy is real and not to be underestimated, but he is defeated and not to be feared. Our weapons are truth, faith, prayer, and the Word, not technique.
Application
Take the battle seriously but not fearfully. Put on the armor daily through Scripture and prayer, resist temptation by the Word as Jesus did, and stand firm. The same Christ who defeated the enemy lives in you, and the outcome is not in doubt.
